Nestled in the heart of the Vallee de Joux in Switzerland for over 170 years, Manufacture Jaeger-LeCoultre has been the undisputable reference in fine watchmaking. The pursuit of excellence and the refusal to accept boundaries are the guiding principles that have helped build the tradition and legend of the Manufacture.
Founded in 1833, Antoine LeCoultre was a self-taught watchmaker and inventor devoted to the quest for absolute precision and reliability who established the little workshop which was to become the Manufacture Jaeger-LeCoultre. The culmination of the Jaeger-LeCoultre brand occurred in 1903 when the Parisian Edmond Jaeger challenged the Swiss to manufacture some ultra-thin calibers of his own invention. Jacques-David LeCoultre, grandson of the founder, set about this with great enthusiasm. Out of the two men’s friendship emerged one of the most beautiful collections of ultra-thin pocket watches and the Manufacture steeped in quality and innovation.
Today, Manufacture Jaeger-LeCoultre creates pioneering technical and aesthetic timepieces that are both hip and valuable. In their quest for total reliability, the watchmakers at Jaeger-LeCoultre master all the facets of horological know-how, including the manufacture of the escapement components, which are essential to the precision of a mechanical movement. No watch leaves the Manufacture (except for watches fitted with the JLC Calibre 101 movement) without undergoing 1,000 hours of trial testing. The precision, power-reserve, water-resistance, functions, resistance to temperature and shocks are tested to ensure that the finished watch is fit to face the rigors of everyday life. An engraving or seal testifies that the watch has successfully passed this examination, declaring it ready to be a family heirloom for generations to come.
